Muhammad Dirhamsyah was born on October 2, 1962. Doctor in Mechanical Engineering which focuses on condition monitoring, computer integrated manufacturing system dan Computer-Aided Design / Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) research. Since 2005, after the huge catastrophe – Aceh earthquake and tsunami 2004 –, he and some of his colleagues from local, national, and international tried to actively participated, delivered thoughts, and existing resources for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities though as individually he is also of a victim of the disaster that takes away his beloved mother and daughter.
In 2006 until October 2013, he was appointed as the director of Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC), one of the research center under the Syiah Kuala University which is focus on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities. In recent year, 2009, he invited as resource person at Scientific National Meeting, South-South Cooperation Meeting 2nd Session Global Platform for DRR – accompanying Indonesian Ambassador for Swiss – in Geneva and next 2011, keynote speaker at Symposium on Disaster Prevention, Recovery, and Revitalization in Niigata, and some other seminars, workshops and meeting at various countries. Recently he is also actively involved as a resource person for Aceh Government in DRR activities in Aceh. He sincerely hopes that Aceh will be a model for DRR activities on lessons-learnt for Community-Based Disaster Management and grow it with the Science and Technology-Based and that showcases its local indigenous uniqueness of knowledge.
In 2011 - March 2016, as a head of disaster science magister program, 2011 - 2015 as head of maritime science and technology park, 2016 - 2018 as a Dean of Faculty Science and Technology, State Islamic University (UIN) Ar-Raniry, and a member of Design and Manufacture Laboratory, Syiah Kuala University and help the Government of Aceh since 2014-2019 as a chief of professional advisory board, Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA).
2019 - now, as head of the Center for Innovation Development and Downstream, The task of the center is to develop all inventions that can be commercialization. The commercialization can be applicable and has a positive value to institutions, partners and communities.
