I completed undergraduate education in Chemistry Education Program Study of the Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) of Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) in 1987 with the level of Cum Laude graduation. In 1987, I was also expressed as an examplary student of the Unsyiah, and became representative of the Unsyiah at national level as the examplary student. Since 1988, I became a lecturer in the FKIP of the Unsyiah with teaching subject of Basic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. In 1995, I completed a master degree at University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa-Japan with a specialization in Marine Natural Products Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Masayuki Kuniyoshi. With the blessing of Allah, I was defined as an examplary lecturer of the Unsyiah in 1997. In 2001, I completed the doctoral level under the direction of Prof. Dr. Tatsuo Higa at University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa-Japan with a specialization in Marine Natural Products Chemistry.

Since 2003, I became a lecturer in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the Unsyiah at Marine Science Department that I pioneered its establishment with teaching subject of Marine Natural Product Chemistry, and Marine Toxicology. I've become Chairman of Chemical Education Program Study (1991-1993) of the FKIP, Chairman of the Department of Marine Sciences (2003-2006) of the FMIPA, and Director of Research Institute (2009-2013) of the Unsyiah. Since 2014, I became a lecturer in the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries (FKP) of the Unsyiah at the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization. For the sake of service, I was stationed in Chemistry Education Programme Study of FKIP since July 2016.

I actively follow scientific meeting both national and international levels as a speaker. I have a number of scientific papers published in national and international journals. Currently, the focus of my research is being oriented to work on the utilization of marine and coastal natural materials to combat pests and disease on aquaculture organisms, pest snails Pomacea canaliculata, and the larvae of Aedes aegypti as the vector of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).
